Thermographic Printing

Thermographic Printing

Thermography is a post-printing process that combines traditional printing techniques with thermography machines. This results in beautifully raised printing of typefaces, with a lovely texture and a glossy sheen. It is a technique that easily replaces engraving and copperplate printing to be far more affordable. It also means it is flexible enough to meet your design demands.

Thermography printing is produced by a multi-layer process, instead of raising the paper’s surface or sheet like engraving does, thermographic printing only raises the typeface lettering or image.

First the sheet of paper or board is run through our traditional printing press. While the ink is still wet, it is carried through on a conveyer belt to the thermo machine, where powder known as thermo powder is sprinkled onto the sheet. The powder sticks to the wet ink, the excess of unused powder is vacuumed up. Then the sheet carries on through to a heating process where the sheet is exposed to temperatures of 900 to 1300 degrees Fahrenheit. The heat melts the powder combining with the ink, and when it cools it raises up to give the raised printed finish. All this is done in a mere 2 – 3 seconds.

Thermography print can be used for most types of stationery as you can see from our many products.

Thermographic business cards give that extra touch of professionalism, they can be printed in your corporate image. Business cards can also be printed double sided and even gilt edged if required. We can also continue the raised thermography print throughout your business stationery on products such as letterheads and compliment slips.

Other products that benefit from raised thermography printing are invitations. These can be wedding invites, corporate invitations or a celebration invite, they all look great with the raised embossed finish to the print.

Finally, our ranges of personal stationery give that extra touch of class when printed in raised thermography. At Home Cards and Correspondence Cards are very popular and what with them finished off with the raised embossed print, they make them a treat to send off to family and friends.

Trade Thermographic Printing

We are Trade Thermographic printers, that means we do all our thermo printing in-house, and have been doing so for the past (cough-cough) 30+ years!

We deal with some very large printing companies and designers and then also with the smaller high street chains and store fronts that love to offer Thermography, but are just not set up for it. We can supply right across the UK as we use a very reputable courier firm.

We are happy to supply samples of our thermographic work, and we find this helps to sell it to customers, as once they see and feel the quality of the print, they are sold!

We can produce such an array of products using thermo print, from business cards, and all business stationery, to personal stationery like note paper and correspondence cards, and then the ever popular wedding stationery.

On our thick 350-400gsm weight boards that we use for business cards, wedding invitations etc we can print in up to 4 spot colours in thermography.

We also produce laser guaranteed thermo printing for letterheads and anything that is likely to go through a laser printer, which means the raised thermo print will cause no harm to the laser printer.

We tend to stick with using the Conqueror range of papers and boards, as these are universally known quality products, with lots of choice in colours, textures and weights and also matching envelopes.

Foil Printed Business Cards

For a lasting impression

Foil blocking printing is a hand-crafted process that uses a metal die to design and apply high temperature and pressure for stamping on the board. This gives the print a metallic foiled image, which can be incorporated with raised thermography, flat litho printing, and gilt edging.

With Foil Printing, you can even opt for 800gsm or heavier boards as the machines can take much heavier boards. A vast range of colours available makes foil printing a popular choice. Please see below for more details.

Double-sided Business Cards

Double the advantage

Double-sided cards are printed with raised thermographic print on one side and flat litho on the other. You can supply your own artwork, choose a custom conqueror board or simply use our standard ivory 335-400gsm. Designs can be printed in up to 4 spot colours. Please see below for more details.

Good print in plain English

Along with our friendly disposition here at Thermofast, we deliver consistently high standards of work at competitive pricing, and aim to provide the best service even for short runs using conventional press printing with the thermo process. Our raised ink printing process on A3, A4 or A5 can be as effective on thick and heavyweight boards and fine luxury stationery papers alike – and we supply to trade and public alike.

We have extensive experience (over 30 years) of short run, small quantity production and of talking to our clients in  plain language without you having to know all the printers’ jargon. Our specialisation is the production of thermographed (raised lettering) print work, and we are one of a small number of printers in the UK who undertake and produce this work in-house. By producing this as a sole supplier – we are better able to offer great pricing, excellent quality and a fast turnaround, no middle-men and no extra margin.
